The Unfolding Legacy of KOKO Records

In the vibrant tapestry of South Africa's music industry, KOKO Records stands as a beacon of creativity and devotion. Founded in 2007 by the dynamic duo of Thoko Mthembu and Nqubeko Mbatha, this record label has carved out a niche for itself, championing artistic autonomy and Gospel expression with unwavering dedication.

At its core, KOKO Records embodies a set of values that reflect its commitment to nurturing talent and fostering excellence. Growth and development, hard work, teamwork, innovation, and excellence serve as guiding principles, shaping every endeavor undertaken by the label.

Nqubeko Mbatha, with over 18 years of experience in the music industry, brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table. His musical journey began in the hallowed halls of his local church, eventually leading him to study music at Natal Technikon. Having served as the musical director and producer for the esteemed ensemble Joyous Celebration, Nqubeko's influence spans far and wide. His solo career under Universal Music, coupled with his dedication to KOKO Records, underscores his passion for music and his commitment to its transformative power.

Thoko Mthembu's journey to KOKO Records is equally compelling. A former advertising executive and Law Graduate, Thoko's deep-seated love for music was cultivated in her upbringing within a family of singers. Her involvement in singing groups, including the one signed by KOKO Records upon its inception, speaks to her enduring passion for music. Today, she lends her talents not only as a singer but also as the manager of the music department at her local church, embodying the label's ethos of dedication and service.

The success of KOKO Records is not solely measured by its founders' achievements but also by the remarkable artists who call it home. From the powerhouse vocals of Ntokozo Mbambo to the soul-stirring melodies of Ayanda Ntanzi and the recent addition of Mmangaliso Gumbi, KOKO Records has nurtured a community of talent that continues to flourish. The collaborative spirit of artists like Ntokozo and Nqubeko, as evidenced by the groundbreaking "The United Tour," showcases the label's commitment to fostering creativity and collaboration.

The recent talent search competition spearheaded by Nqubeko Mbatha, which led to the discovery of Mmangaliso Gumbi, further underscores KOKO Records' dedication to cultivating new voices and nurturing their growth. Mmangaliso's

debut single, "Halleluya UyiNgcwele," penned by Nqubeko Mbatha, serves as a testament to the label's unwavering support for emerging talent.

As KOKO Records continues to evolve and expand its presence, its impact on the Gospel music landscape is undeniable. With a burgeoning social media presence and a catalog of music that resonates with audiences far and wide, KOKO Records has become synonymous with excellence in Gospel music production. Its legacy of nurturing talent, fostering collaboration, and spreading the message of faith through music is a testament to the vision and dedication of its founders and artists alike.

In celebrating the journey of KOKO Records, we not only honor its past achievements but also look forward to the boundless possibilities that lie ahead. With each new release and every artist's success story, KOKO Records reaffirms its commitment to shaping the future of Gospel music in South Africa and beyond.
