When you think of gospel music excellence in South Africa right now, one name keeps coming up — KOKO Records. Co-owned by Nqubeko Mbatha and Thoko Mthembu, this label has grown from humble beginnings into a powerhouse that continues to shape the sound and soul of gospel.
We’ve had the privilege of watching KOKO Records grow over the years. In the early days, it was Nqubeko , Thoko and Ntokozo carrying the banner, putting in the work both on stage and behind the scenes. Then came the signing of Ayanda Ntanzi and we all witnessed his career take off in ways that inspired a whole generation of gospel lovers.
From the start, the growth was steady — no shortcuts, no gimmicks. Every step was intentional, every decision carefully thought out. The focus was always on building the artists, the brand and the message. And that patience has paid off.
Today, KOKO Records isn’t just a label — it’s a home. You can feel the family spirit in the way the artists work together. It’s not just about releasing songs; it’s about creating moments, building experiences and producing music with purpose.
One of the best examples of this is The United Tour — a celebration of music, unity and faith, featuring the full KOKO family and special guests. The Johannesburg leg was a resounding success, and now all eyes are on Durban for the next chapter. These aren’t just concerts; they’re immersive experiences where the quality of the music, the staging and the creativity all come together to create something unforgettable.

Behind the scenes, there’s been massive growth too. The media and digital team has been delivering top-tier content — from striking visuals to engaging online campaigns — making sure the message reaches far beyond the stage. And with the recent addition of Mmangaliso to the roster, the KOKO family has only grown stronger. Her transition into the team has been seamless, proof that this is more than a label; it’s a space where artists belong.
What really sets KOKO Records apart is their commitment to opening doors for new talent. Through talent searches led by Nqubeko, the label gives aspiring singers a chance to share the stage with industry greats. It’s how Mmangaliso was discovered and it’s a tradition they’ve kept alive — with new voices being found at the Joburg leg and now, again, for Durban.
KOKO Records is a proudly Black-owned label making a global statement in gospel music. They deliver quality music, exceptional productions and real opportunities for young artists to shine. The growth is undeniable, the consistency unmatched, and the vision inspiring.
As Durban prepares to host The United Tour, we can only expect more unforgettable moments. So, if you haven’t got your ticket yet, this is your sign. Come and witness gospel excellence, support the incredible work of KOKO Records and be part of the story as they continue to grow from strength to strength.
